Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) is a comprehensive and dynamic full-body treatment that combines elements of deep tissue massage therapy, gentle yoga-based assisted stretching (passive stretching) and breath work into one tailored treatment.
The treatment is performed on a mattress on the floor and typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes. The massage is given with a little oil mixed with calamus powder, a plant with exfoliating and stimulating effects. The mix is applied using deep massage strokes performed with the hands and feet.
This bodywork treatment provides a deep sense of openness and well-being on a physical, psychological and emotional level and will help you reconnect to yourself. It will leave you with a feeling of relief, deep calm and spaciousness in your body and mind. A sense of bodily flow free from stagnant energies.
As a certified AYM therapist, I am deeply grateful to my teacher, Ananta Sylvain Girard, whose knowledge, touch and generosity have inspired me even more to offer this incredible bodywork treatment - this art of touch. I was first introduced to this treatment when I was in Portugal for my yoga teacher training and ever since I have wanted to be able to offer this treatment.
AYM differs from other traditional Ayurvedic massages not only in the techniques used, deeper pressure as well as the combination of stretches, it also uses a lot less oil.
Treat yourself or someone you love to this wonderful bodywork.

Oil and CalamusI only use cold pressed organic sesame, almond, grapeseed, jojoba or argan oil*
Calamus (Acorus Calamus) or sweet acorn/sweet rush is an aquatic, rhizomatous herbaceous plant. In India it is called Vacha (Hindi name), Vekhand (Marathi name) or Vācā (Sanskrit name). Its roots (rhizomes), dried and powdered, are applied to the body with massage oil. The exfoliating, toning and draining properties of the calamus powder help to stimulate the muscles, eliminate toxins and calm the mind. *depending on availability |

Testimonials
What an amazing massage! The AYM was deep and intense but also relaxing. There was a great feeling of transfer of energy. To be repeated! As an active man needing to release muscle tension and improve flexibility, I decided to have one-hour full body massage with Mia. I was so grateful to have used Mia's services as she is not only a passionate and fantastic masseuse, but also has a calming presence and is lovely to talk to. |
I just had an amazing massage from Mia! Firstly, she creates a super comfortable and serene environment. Then she found muscles that I didn’t even know were sore, while also providing a really relaxing experience. Her unique technique is the perfect remedy if you need to de-stress. Highly recommend! I had the opportunity to receive a massage from Mia a few days before the Luxembourg Marathon 2022. |
Mia did a fantastic job in creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere when I entered the room. She's made me feel comfortable from the start with explaining what to expect and giving instructions how to lay down. She also made sure to be aware of any areas of pain I might have that she needed to consider. I loved the combination of the massage and stretching. The head and face massage at the end was the icing on the cake! Overall, I felt super relaxed afterwards and can only highly recommend to anyone. If you are looking for a deep treatment for your whole body this is for you. The AYM massage with Mia is full, firm and leaves you feeling deeply relaxed, in mind and body. |
I had a massage with Mia after an intense period of training which created a lot of tensions in my back and legs. After her massage, I felt totally relaxed. She works on the full body, asking which part of it she may insist on if any, checking in and caring about how you feel the whole time. She is gentle and strong at the same time, going into deep tissue and working on specific tension points. She really knows what she is doing, and now my body is more balanced and my mind is more serene. Amazing feeling! I chose to try an AYM (Ayurvedic yoga massage), a type of massage with which I was not familiar. Mia had created a relaxing and welcoming ambience with soothing music and subtle lighting. She took great care to ensure that I was comfortable and she regularly told me what she was doing/about to do, which I found helpful and reassuring. She used both gentle and firmer strokes, checking with me whether the pressure was too much, especially in the tense, knotty places which she quickly identified. The massage was wonderful, releasing tension in my back and shoulders and leaving me feeling relaxed, and I loved the head and face massage at the end. Mia is very professional and inspires confidence and I look forward to my next massage with her. |
The history of the AYM method and Kusum Modak
The original Ayurvedic Yoga Massage method was developed in Pune, India in the early 1980s by Master Kusum Modak.
Kusum was greatly influenced by her two teachers. The first, the legendary Hatha yoga teacher, BKS Iyengar, was world-renowned for his precise alignments using props and his work with pranayama (breathing techniques). The second, Vasudev Limaye, was a local massage therapist from a family of traditional Ayurvedic massage therapists for generations.
My teacher, Ananta Sylvain Girard, was taught directly by Kusum Modak.
